Mark 13:32 NLT “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
My point is that as Jesus said we don't need to freak out when we see things like COVID-19, wide spread wildfires, racial unrest, unusual weather events, political division, and the other things that have surprised and shocked us in 2020. These kinds of things will continue to happen until Jesus returns.
Mark 13:7 NLT And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately.
Jesus warns us to stay aware
Jesus' words are as true now as they were then and they will remain true until he comes again. May we be faithful, wise to listen, and may He help us to apply them to life in the midst if chaos:
Mark 13:5-6 NLT Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many.
Mark 13:9 NLT “When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.
Mark 13:23 NLT Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!
Mark 13:33 NLT And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert !
Mark 13:35 NLT You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.
Mark 13:36 NLT Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.
Many around us may be feeling worried and fearful in these days. Choose to trust and believe that God is working in our world, even behind the scenes where we can’t fully see. Ask Him for His Presence of peace to fill your life today, ask for His help in staying aware and alert. Pray that God will help us all, as believers, to be a light to others who need His hope in dark times.
