The 20th and 21st centuries saw the rise of laws that were "race-neutral" in language but discriminatory in practice.<br />&#8203;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">1. Education and "Anti-CRT (Critical Race Theory)" Statutes</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">In many states, laws now strictly limit how teachers can discuss the history of American racism. By legally restricting the mention of "systemic racism," these laws prevent the next generation from understanding the foundation of our current social struggles.</span></span><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">When our current laws mirror the exclusion of the past, they challenge our mandate to love our neighbor as ourselves.&nbsp;</span></span><br /><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700"><font size="5">The Scriptural Call to Justice</font></span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">For the believer, these legal structures aren't just political issues&mdash;they are spiritual ones. The scriptures teach that laws can be instruments of sin if they oppress the vulnerable.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">The scriptures teach that God is "no respecter of persons".&nbsp; He shows no partiality and expects the same from us.&nbsp;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Deuteronomy 10:17 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.&nbsp;</span></span><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">When we see modern systems&mdash;from the justice system to housing and education&mdash;that provide different outcomes based on race, we are seeing a violation of God&rsquo;s character.&nbsp;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">1. Love is Not Neutral</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">When asked what was the greatest commandment Jesus&rsquo; reply was;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Matthew 22:37-40 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">[37] Jesus replied: &ldquo;&#8198;&lsquo;Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.&rsquo; [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] And the second is like it: &lsquo;Love your neighbor as yourself.&rsquo; [40] All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.&rdquo;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">Love is not passive; it is active. To love a neighbor is to desire for them the same legal protections and opportunities you enjoy. The Warning Against Unjust Decrees</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">The Bible explicitly warns those who use their power to write oppression into the laws:</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Isaiah 10:1-2 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">[1] Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, [2] to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">3. The Path Forward: Seeking God&rsquo;s Will<br /><br />&#8203;</span></span><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">Aligning our priorities with God's will is a continuous process of self-reflection and systemic reform. It is not a "quick fix," but a lifelong commitment to:</span></span><br /><br /><ul><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Truth-Telling:</span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"> Acknowledging the racist history that was written into our laws so we can accurately diagnose the present.</span></span></li><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Sacrificial Advocacy:</span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"> Following the example of Jesus, who centered the marginalized and challenged the legalistic structures of his time, even at great personal cost.</span></span></li><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Active Justice:</span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"> Moving beyond charity to the work of seeking a society where laws finally reflect the equality of the Kingdom of Heaven.</span></span></li></ul> <span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">&#8203;</span></span><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight:700">Micah 6:8 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. But here is the beautiful truth: </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">God doesn&rsquo;t just use small things; He specializes in them.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Don't Despise the Day of Small Beginnings</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">In the book of Zechariah, the people were rebuilding the temple, and it didn't look nearly as grand as the one before it. People were discouraged. But God sent a word:</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Zechariah 4:10 NLT </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[10</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">] Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel&rsquo;s hand.&rdquo;</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)"> (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.) </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">(emphasis mine)</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">In God&rsquo;s&nbsp; economy, a "small" act done with great love carries more weight than a "huge" act done for recognition.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">The Mustard Seed Strategy</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">Jesus often used the smallest things to explain the biggest concepts. He told us that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed&mdash;the tiniest of seeds that eventually grows into a tree large enough to house birds.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Matthew 13:31-32 NLT </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[31] Here is another illustration Jesus used: &ldquo;The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. [32] It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.&rdquo;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">Think about the examples we see in Scripture:<br />&#8203;</span></span><ul><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">A Boy&rsquo;s Lunch:</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)"> Five loaves and two fish were "small" until they were placed in the hands of the Bread of Life. Then, they fed more than 5,000.</span></span></li></ul><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">John 6:9-13 NLT </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[9] &ldquo;There&rsquo;s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?&rdquo; [10]&nbsp; &ldquo;Tell everyone to sit down,&rdquo; Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) [11] Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. Many rich people put in large amounts. [42] Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. [43] Jesus called his disciples to him and said, &ldquo;I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. Not everyone is an eye or a hand. Some parts are "lesser," but they are indispensable.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">1 Corinthians 12:14-22 NLT </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[14] Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. [15] If the foot says, &ldquo;I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,&rdquo; that does not make it any less a part of the body. [16] And if the ear says, &ldquo;I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,&rdquo; would that make it any less a part of the body? [17] If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? [18] But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. [19] How strange a body would be if it had only one part! [20] Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. Being "faithful over a few things" is exactly what leads to the Master saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant"</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Matthew 25:19-23 NLT&nbsp; </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[19]&nbsp; &ldquo;After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. Identifying the "Simon the Sorcerers" of Today<br /><br /></span></span><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">Simon&rsquo;s error wasn&rsquo;t just his background in magic; it was his </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">transactional view of the sacred</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">. Today, we see this spirit manifest in several ways:<br /><br /></span></span><ul><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">The Transactional Gospel:</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)"> Simon believed that the gifts of God could be purchased with money. They use the language of faith to build an empire for themselves rather than the Kingdom of God.</span></span><br /><br /><ul><li style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Form without Power:</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)"> They often mimic the "look" of a move of God through emotional manipulation or high-production "theatrics" that lack the actual fruit of the Spirit.</span></span></li></ul><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">&#8203;</span></span><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[1] But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. What Should We Do When We Identify Them?</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">Identification is only the first step. The Bible gives us a clear template for how to handle these situations with both truth and grace.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Exercise Sharp Discernment</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">We are commanded to "test the spirits".</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">1 John 4:1 NIV</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)"> Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.&nbsp;</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">We must look past the "signs and wonders" or the charisma of a leader and examine their </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">fruit</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">&nbsp;</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Matthew 7:15-20 NIV. </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[15]&nbsp; &ldquo;Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep&rsquo;s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. [16] By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? [</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">17] Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit</span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">. When we see the sacred being monetized or used for self-exaltation, we have a responsibility to speak the truth&mdash;especially if we are in positions of leadership or oversight.</span></span><br /><br /><span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31); font-weight:700">Acts 8:20-23 NIV </span><span style="color:rgb(31, 31, 31)">[20] Peter answered: &ldquo;May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! [21] You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Peter&rsquo;s rebuke ended with a call to repentance.
