God-sized goals are big goals, supernatural goals. If your goals are so small that we can fulfill them ourselves, they aren’t God-sized. To have and accomplish God-sized goals there are four things we must do this year.
- Learn to think supernaturally
- Learn to plan supernaturally.
- Learn to pray supernaturally.
- Learn to claim supernatural resources.
God-sized goals are what give purpose and meaning to our lives. The best way to live a purposeful life in 2024 is to have the vision to accomplish that goal God gives you. A God-given goal will not only give you purpose but will be something with eternal significance.
Let God reveal his vision, His plan for you to you.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 MSG And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.
A vision is a clear mental picture of something that God desires for your life. A vision clarifies purpose, helps establish priorities, motivates commitment, maximizes productivity, and fuels passion. It gives us a direction to head in. It gets into our hearts and becomes a burden. As we move to action, we ask God for direction. As God responds, He provides our mission, purpose, and focus.
The plans and goals God gives have two consistent elements: they have a wide scope of influence, and they have lasting impact.
God’s goal for Adam and Eve was to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it”. God’s goal for Abraham was not just to have a son, but to start a nation and to be a blessing to all people on earth. Jesus’ goal for the disciples was for them to be witnesses in the power of the Holy Spirit from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.
To accomplish a God-size goal we must learn to claim supernatural resources.
1 Peter 2:9-10 NIV But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
We are not ordinary people. We are a special people, a royal priesthood.
Our lives are joined with the one who spoke the world into existence. We belong to him who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth, and He dwells in us in all his resurrection power.
Romans 8:9-11 NIV You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
Because of this power that is within us we can claim what is says in
Philippians 4:13 NIV I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Dear Lord,
Thank you that you are the God who works wonders. We can’t possibly box you in with our limited understanding. Thank you for a new year and the opportunity to allow you to do a new thing in our lives. I pray, Lord, that you would show us new rhythms for living. Show us creative ways you want to use us as witnesses for your glory. Would you forgive us when we become rigid and stuck in our ways? Forgive us when we refuse to see how you do things beyond our imaginations and understanding. Lord, your Son's life bears witness to this phenomenon! Help us see, Lord. Give us an insatiable desire to learn more about who you are and how you want us to live from your Word in this new year. Would you bring each of us a special word or phrase that we can focus on this year that will help us to become more like you? Thank you that you are a creative and awesome God. Lord, do a new thing! In Jesus’ name, amen.
