Psalm 148 is a hymn of praise and a universal chorus of praise by everything in heaven and on earth. Praise so glorious that it is world-shaking.
The psalmist starts by seeking praise from the heavenly beings (the angles), and heavenly phenomena (Sun, Moon, Stars, the Heavens, and the Waters above the Heavens). Then the writer seeks praise from the earth starting with the ocean depths. He then calls on all forms of life, both animate and inanimate to praise God. Then the highest of all God’s creation is called on last to praise the Creator.
