In order for us to truly love God and obey Him, we must first become acquainted with the great love that He has for us.
1 John 4:16-20 NIV And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
God the Father loves you. That’s a simple truth that can be overlooked or even forgotten but it’s that simple, yet deep and dynamic truth that sets you free from guilt, shame and any lie that the enemy has whispered to keep you from getting closer to God and in sin/disobedience.
Romans 8:31-39 NIV What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin once separated us from God but through the death and resurrection of Christ and our faith in Him, we have been reconciled to God the Father. So that we would not perish but have everlasting life and have a relationship with Him.
Christ died when we least deserved it, whilst we were still sinners. Why? He was driven by a great love for you and I. This love is constant towards you!
Romans 5:8-11 NIV But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
The love of God doesn’t need to be earned, neither does His love change towards you, it stays the same. He doesn’t love you any less today than He did yesterday.
God is love and therefore He defines it.
1 John 4:16 NIV And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (emphasis mine)
Abiding in God is abiding in love. You grow in the understanding of His heart towards you, by remaining in His word (scriptures) which is truth and it’s the truth that sets you free.
John 8:31-32 NIV To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Psalm 119:105 NIV Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
It’s the awareness of this love, that will compel you to obey Him.
John 14:15 NIV “If you love me, keep my commands.
How often do we actually pause to take in God's love towards you?
Who would we be and become if we actually received the love He had towards us? I mean really believed it.
His love shapes us and brings out the best in us.
It will change the way you see yourself and others but above all it will change the way you live for God.
May the knowledge and the continuous awareness of His love, cause you to live a life that pleases Him.
