Isaiah 9:6 NKJV For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
He told us the Savior would be both powerful and personal—and he’d be strong enough to save us, but also tender and loving. He is everything we need, everything we desire, and everything we could ever hope for but, the most Most impressive thing is that Jesus would have a personal relationship with us.
Here's Isaiah’s amazing prediction.
Isaiah 40:11 NKJV He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.
In his prophecy Isaiah describes the Messiah in four titles; Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Let’s break them down and we will see that Jesus, who is the Messiah, is truly everything for everyone.
Wonderful Counselor
All wisdom comes from Him!
Proverbs 2:6-7 NKJV For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He’s our source for all wisdom and understanding. He leads us into right paths and teaches us how to live a life of meaning and fulfillment.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He understands us! Having lived fully human, He knows what it’s like to walk in our shoes.
Hebrews 4:14-15 NKJV Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
When we're troubled and hurting, when we feel lonely or afraid, He is our Wonderful Counselor.
Mighty God
Strength, power, courage, perseverance . . . it all comes from Him.
I Peter 5:11 NKJVTo Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
The Word constantly reminds us that His power is available to all who look to Him.
Psalms 46:1-3 NKJV God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
Philippians 4:13 NKJV I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I John 4:4 NKJV You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
When we need to see a miracle in life, when we need someone to fight for us, He is our Mighty God.
Our Savior is one with the Father. He’s the way to the Father.
John 14:9-11 NKJV Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
Hebrews 1:1-3 NKJV God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
John 8:58 NKJV Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Jesus goes before us, and will always be with us. When we forget who we belong to, when we need to be reminded that we're greatly loved and cared for, He is our Everlasting Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
Prince of Peace
Jesus came so we could be made right with God. He came to reconcile us to the Father by bridging the gap and paying the price for our sins. Here is what He told His disciples
John 14:25-27 NKJV “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
His peace, which surpasses understanding, has the power to guard us, to give us hope, assurance, and rest.
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
We can go to Him for rest from the rush and cares of this world.
I Peter 5:6-7 NKJV Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
When we feel anxious and worried, when we need a reminder that our future is secure no matter what swirls around us, He is our Prince of Peace.
I don’t know what problems you’re facing this Christmas. I don’t know what burdens you’re bearing. I don’t know what grief, fear, anxiety, or confusion you may be feeling right now, but I do know this, there’s not a single thing you need or want that Christ Jesus doesn’t offer. There’s not a single good and beautiful thing in all eternity that a relationship with Jesus doesn’t provide for everyone. His power, wisdom, peace, love, grace, compassion, kindness, mercy, and strength is for all of us.
