God created time and gave it to us. Time is one thing that he gives equally to everyone. Some may have more talents, or spiritual gifts but we all have the same amount of time. Every person has sixty minutes to the hour, twenty-four hours to the day, and seven days per week. Time is your most precious resource. No matter how rich we are, time cannot be bought. No matter how poor, we cannot receive less. It’s far more important than money. You can get more money, but you can’t get more time. You only have a certain amount allotted to you in this life. The president of our nation or the CEO of the largest corporation in the world has no more time than you.
So how are we using our time? What will happen to us when we are called before the judgement seat of Christ to give account of our use of the time we were given?
2 Corinthians 5:6-10 NIV Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. (emphasis mine)
You can’t make time. You can’t borrow time. You can’t save time. You can’t extend time. You can only use it. You won’t be able to manage anything else in your life if you don’t learn how to manage your time well. Your time is your life.
Ephesians 5:15-16 (NKJV)15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (emphasis mine)
Colossians 4:5 (NKJV)5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. (emphasis mine)
The Bible tells you exactly what you should be doing with your time
Acts 20:24 (NLT2)24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
One of Satan’s strategies is to get you so busy doing unimportant things that you don’t have time for the important things in life—preparing for eternity. If Satan can’t get you to be bad, he’ll just get you to be busy.
God wants to use you, but he wants to make sure you’re investing your time in the most important things. That means using your time in view of eternity.
Concentrate On The Main Things
We need to concentrate on the main things, not the noise of life that says “Now hear this!”
Matthew 6:33-34 NIV But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (emphasis mine)
Philippians 3:12-14 NIV Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (emphasis mine)
If we are good stewards of the time that God has given us we will multiply our usefulness both to God and to our fellow humans. The person who is organized, motivated, and dedicated in the use of time can accomplish more than three people who are careless, and frustrated where time is concerned. The faithful steward of time is fruitful, and a fruitful Christian life brings glory to God.
In the final analysis it is only by deliberately paying our attention to and giving our primary commitment to eternity that we can prevent time from turning our lives into a pointless exercise. If we do this, everything else will fall into place.
You have 365 days in front of you in 2025. How can you use your time in view of eternity?
