I also asked that same question on Quora and LinkedIn, and said that I would post the answers that I got. I’m publishing most of those answers in this post. There were some responses that were vulgar, and others that were irrelevant. They are not included. There are also some responses from non-Christians that I found interesting.
I’m publishing the responses as they were given without comment. If you have a different answer or approach that you would give to a non-believer when talking them about salvation I would like to hear it as well. You can respond by commenting to this post. I will acknowledge every response without comment.
*Excellent question……the answer involves the future of all mankind.
There are quite a few details involved in the answer. However I will try to be concise but accurate. This is not my philosophy, but comes straight from the Bible, which is considered to be “inspired of GOD”
QuestionL Why do we need to be saved?
Job 14: 1–2 “Man, born of woman, is short-lived and filled with trouble. He comes up like a blossom and then withers away, he flees like a shadow and disappears.” James 4:14 puts it another way……”Whereas you do not know what your life well be like tomorrow. For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then disappears.” The reason being for this is we all DIE. Human death was not a part of God’s original purpose. He intended for humans to live forever on the earth, and what he purposes, he accomplishes. Isaiah 55:11 “so my word that goes out of my mouth will be. It will not return to me without results. But will certainly accomplish whatever is my delight, and will have sure success in what I send it to do.”
That is where Jeus Christ comes into the picture…Jehovah God has already arranged for us to be saved or rescued from death. Jesus Christ is the central figure in that arrangement. Once again, humans were not meant to die. But because of Adam’s blatant and rebellious disobedience we die. God told him if he ate from a particular tree that he would die. He did, and he died. He passed death on to his descendants. Showing a flagrant disregard for all the good that Jehovah God had done for him. At death, he became as lifeless as the dust he was formed from. We die because we come from Adam. The apostle Paul describes our plight this way: “I am fleshly, sold under sin. Miserable man that I am! Who will rescue me rom the body undergoing this death? Thanks to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Jeus gave his life so that we might live forever. God arranged a means for overcoming the effects of sin freeing us from the penalty of eternal death. How? He sent his Son from heaven to be born a perfect human like Adam but, unlike Adam, Jesus “committed no sin.” (1 Peterr2:22) His father allowed him to die and then raised him back to life as a spirit so that in time he could return to heaven. There he presented to God the value of his perfect human life to redeem what Adam had lost for himself and his offsprings. Making it possible for those who exercise faith in Jesus to receive everlasting life. Romans 3:23–24 1 John 2:2
Jesus thus bought back what Adam forfeited. He suffered death for us so that we could live forever. (Hebrews 2:9) Jehovah’s high standard of justice made it impossible for imperfect humans to redeem themselves. However, His love and mercy moved Him to meet His own requirements at an enormous cost to himself-the giving of his own Son to provide the redemption price.. What a wonderful GOD and Father.
Millions of people have died over the centuries. So you may wonder how is all of this a real possibility? Simply put, Jesus was resurrected from the dead, and others will be too. (1 Corinthians 15: 20–22) please read. In part it says, ………for just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive.” Christ was “the firstfruits” of those raised up, he was indicating that others too would later be resurrected. Jesus himself said that the time would come when “all those in the memorial tombs” would “come out” John 5:28,29.
Then death will be done away with!! Revelation 21:4 says: “ Death will be no more” Read verse 5.
To live forever, we must exercise faith in Jesus. How do we do this?
Jesus died to save us from sin and death that Adam passed on to us…….
I am not sure where they got that from, but that is not what Jesus taught.
John 3–21
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
If you have noticed, Jesus first uses “I” when referring to himself, but then switches to “him”. Jesus was not referring to himself being lifted up by man, but that each one of us is the “son of man” that needs to be lifted up. The “son of man” needs to be lifted up to the realization that we are in Truth the sons and daughters of God.
No one (not even the dead) goes to heaven that did not come from heaven. Meaning, we must achieve this “raising the son of man” during our life here on earth or we will be born again into the flesh. The “raising the son of man” means that we follow and keep the two greatest commandments Jesus taught and then we shall know the Truth that will set us free: free from suffering, free from reincarnation and free from sin.
The message of Christianity is that Jesus did the most incredible thing for all of us: he took the punishment for OUR sins! When he was tortured, beaten and crucified, God was placing the punishment that we deserved on Jesus, his one and only loving Son. Jesus is God himself in the flesh (hence, God’s Son) and being God, Jesus was without sin, innocent, holy, never deserved all that, but “he went through hell” so that we wouldn't have to.
Think of it like if you killed a person and sentenced to life in prison. But your parent pleads with the judge to let you go and place them in prison instead. The judge agreees. Someone else will do the prison time for you. Your parent would be taking the punishment you deserved.
Why do Christians love, follow, worship Jesus? Because Jesus saved us from the worst fate possible; hell itself. An eternity without God! And why did Jesus save us in the first place? Because he loves us that much. He loves you. He loves me. How could I not love and worship someone who would die on a cross , taking a punishment that I deserved? Im the sinner. I'm the failure. I've broken God’s law. But he took my punishment so that I could live with him forever.
Yes, Jesus saves!
The “classic” answer, which I believe is bogus, is that he saves you from your sins. As a spiritualist, I can “guarantee” based on large numbers of communications from dead people, that we all pay for our sins. All of us. Even the late Jerry Falwell.
However Jesus did intimate that he had a “key”, and I believe he did, but my explanation is heretical - its not widely accepted.
For example, Jesus said: “I am the Way and The Truth. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Pretty clear? Well obviously not, because he should have added: “through listening to me, and doing what I have done.”
So what did he do? He prayed intensely to God to send His special energy that is needed to transform a soul from its “as-created state” to a state of divinity. He would have also explained at that time, as he has communicated subsequently:
*And I further informed them, that, if they wished to assert the truth of my words, they should try and test my teachings that the Father’s Love was now available, and pray for it to the Father in earnest prayer, and see whether, if this was done in sincerity, the Father’s Love, conveyed through the Holy Spirit, would burn and glow in the soul, by which sign they would realize His Love was present therein.” [1]

*Ironically, from himself.
You see, after God set Adam and Eve up to eat the apple (and don’t try to tell me an Omniscient being didn’t know *that* was going to happen - the mother of a two-year-old could figured out that’d be the end result of saying “whatever you do, don’t touch that tree over there…see where I’m pointing?”) He cursed them, you know, the whole “Original Sin” thing that ever since all mankind for some reason has to share even though none of us had anything to do with Adam & Eve’s apple eating.
Anyway, eventually (as in “thousands and thousands of years later) he sent himself as Jesus to inform mankind that all they’d have to do to remove this curse (on an individual basis, unfortunately) was to believe in Jesus, then manufactured what was essentially a blood sacrifice of himself to himself to lift this curse.
So basically, God the Son is saving you from a curse that God the Father put on all of mankind due to the actions of two people who literally, *literally* didn’t know any better.
*From damnation, sin, devil, death (eternal). God grants those that believe in Him eternal Life through Jesus Christ His son.
*He saves us from our sin, dying for us and taking the blame so that we are forgiven, and rescued from eternal hell.
That’s why Christians refer to him as their Savior, because they have been snatched from the fire by his love.
*Jesus saves people from their sins. And to those who believe in Him, he gives them the right to become the children of God. John1:12.
Matthew 1:21 says
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
*Sin. Death. Yourself. Hell. Guilt. Shame. The Judgment of God. A life of loneliness or despair. Jesus saves you from them all.
*He saves you from going to HELL. That is , if you follow his instructions which are all laid out in the catholic bible.
*Easy, HELL, from ourselves too, from our enemies, from Satan, from trials and temptations, thinking well that is why he is called the SAVIOR.
*It’s a circular system. God creates Satan and evil and then sends Jesus to save you from it. Ridiculous. Ignore it and rely on critical thinking.
*From eternal death
*It is like this…
The creed in wich Christianity is based has a god. This god had an “update” (as the original version is judaism) with the new testament, that is the version 2.0 of this creed. But the old part(the jewish one) are also part of the Christianity. In the update, they claim that Jesus saves you from the threat created in this very religion by a bunch of unnatural, cruel, misogynistic rules…ie believe and follow Jesus(no mater if you are “good or bad)or go to hell.
Got it? No? No wonder. It makes no sense.
