The Traits Of The Righteous
This Psalm, whose writer is unknown describes the righteous person who has learned what it means to fear God and delight in His commandments.
The righteous person is;
Blessed - Reminiscent of Psalm 1
Psalm 1:1 NIV Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
Their children will inherit their spiritual as well as his material wealth and his righteousness lasts forever.
Gracious - Full of compassion
These are characteristics used in the description of God.
Psalm 111:4 NIV He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
The fact that these are traits of the righteous proves that as God works His purpose to confirm the righteous to the image of His Son
Romans 8:28-29 NIV And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
They become more and more like the Him who is object of their worship. Because of their godly character they will continue to prosper and maintain their reputation as people of God.
Confident - Complete trust in God.
Their complete trust in God gives them a sense of stability that the wicked cannot know. The righteous know that their standing with God will not change. On the other hand the wicked have no assurance of their fate.
The profile of the person who fears the Lord is remarkable. It is a reflection of the character of God Himself. It is generally fulfilled in the godly man or woman, and perfectly fulfilled in the man Jesus Christ.
