In a world that constantly pressures us to conform, it's easy to lose sight of our intrinsic worth. We compare ourselves to others, focusing on our flaws and shortcomings, and we begin to believe that we are somehow a mistake. But the truth found in Scripture offers a profound and liberating perspective: God does not make mistakes. You are not a mistake; you are a masterpiece, fearfully and wonderfully made.
The Psalmist understood this truth intimately. In Psalm 139:13-16, he writes, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
This passage isn't just beautiful poetry; it's a declaration of God's intentional and personal involvement in your creation. He wasn't a distant observer; He was the master workman, meticulously crafting every detail of who you are. Your personality, your talents, your unique physical features—they were all part of His perfect plan.
Here’s the truth
Ephesians 2:10 NLT For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
The Greek word for "masterpiece" is poiēma, from which we get the word "poem." It speaks of a work of art, something carefully and skillfully crafted. You are God's living poem, a testament to His creative power and love.
Even when we feel like we're not enough, or that we're missing something, we can find assurance in God's promises. God knew you before you were even a thought in your parents' minds. He set you apart for a purpose.
Jeremiah 1:4-5 NLT The Lord gave me this message: “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
Remember that you are God's handiwork, His living poem, crafted with intention and purpose. Embrace the unique individual He created you to be, and find confidence in the fact that a loving God, who makes no mistakes, made you.
