Romans 8:37-39 NIV [37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Think about that for a moment. Not just conquerors, but more than conquerors. This isn't a title we earn through our own efforts; it's a gift bestowed upon us through the love of Jesus Christ. It means that even before the battle begins, victory is assured because of His finished work on the cross.
When we approach God in prayer, seeing ourselves as beggars, we often focus on our lack, our weaknesses, and the seemingly insurmountable problems we face. While humility is crucial, it should never overshadow the authority and inheritance we have in Christ. We are not groveling at the foot of a distant throne; we are seated with Him, sharing in His authority and power.
Ephesians 2:6 NIV And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
Consider the prodigal son. When he returned, planning to beg his father to make him like one of his hired servants, his father didn't let him finish. Instead, he restored him to full sonship, complete with a robe, ring, and sandals.
Luke 15:20-24 NIV [20] So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. [21] “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ [22] “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. [23] Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. This parable beautifully illustrates God's heart for us – He desires to lavish us with His goodness, not to withhold it.
So, what does it mean to pray like a conqueror, not a beggar? It means coming before God with confidence, knowing our identity in Him. Confidence isn't arrogance; it's a firm assurance in God's character and His promises.
Hebrews 4:16 NIV Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Praying as a conqueror involves declaring God's Word over your situation, standing on His promises, and believing that He has already made a way. It's about speaking with authority given to you by Christ, not demanding, but confidently claiming what He has already provided.
Philippians 4:12-13 NIV [12] I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. [13] I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
This isn't a wish; it's a declaration of divine empowerment so let's shift our prayer language from pleading for what we hope God might do, to confidently declaring what we know He will do because of who He is and who we are in Him. You are not a beggar; you are a child of the King, more than a conqueror. Start praying like one.
