What does radical gratitude look like? It's not just acknowledging the good; it's actively and intentionally praising God even in the challenging seasons, recognizing His hand at work in every detail, and living a life that reflects His boundless grace.
Think about it: from the very breath in your lungs to the vastness of the universe, every good and perfect gift comes from above.
James 1:17 NIV Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
We are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalms 139:14 NIV I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
We are sustained by His power, and loved with an everlasting love.
Jeremiah 31:3 NIV The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
This radical gratitude isn't just about the big, miraculous moments – though we should certainly praise Him for those! It's also about the everyday mercies: the sunrise, a warm cup of coffee, the laughter of a child, a comforting word from a friend. These aren't accidental; they are divine provisions.
Psalms 107:1 NIV Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV Rejoice always, [17] pray continually, [18] give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
In all circumstances. That's where the "radical" part comes in. It's easy to be thankful when things are going well. It takes a deeper faith to be thankful when they're not, trusting that God is still sovereign and working all things for our good.
Romans 8:28-30 NIV [28] And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. [29] For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. [30] And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
So, as you prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, take some time for reflection. What are the specific, concrete ways God has shown up for you this year? What blessings have you perhaps overlooked? Let your heart swell with a gratitude so profound, so overflowing, that it transforms your perspective.
Let your thankfulness be a testimony to His faithfulness. Let it be a source of joy that strengthens you and encourages those around you. This Thanksgiving, let your thanks be truly radical.
