But then, the road takes a sharp turn into the nonsensical. You feel a nudge to give when your bank account is low, to stay when everything says "leave," or to wait when the world is screaming "hurry." This is where the stretch happens. God sometimes works in ways that defy our spreadsheets and comfort zones specifically because He is expanding our capacity to trust Him.
Human logic is a wonderful tool, but it is finite. It’s based on what we can see, touch, and predict. Faith, by definition, begins where our sight ends. When God asks us to step out into something that doesn't feel comfortable, He isn't being difficult; He is being a Master Teacher.
God sometimes works in ways that stretch your thinking. He challenges you to trust Him beyond the borders of your comfort zone and past the limits of human reasoning. This "stretch" isn't meant to break you; it’s designed to expand your capacity to see His power.
If God only did what we expected, we would eventually start worshipping our own expectations instead of Him. The "stretch" is designed to pull us out of self-reliance and into a deeper realization that His perspective is infinitely wider than ours.
When Logic and Faith Collide
Our human nature craves a "Step A leads to Step B" reality. We want the math to add up. However, the Kingdom of God often operates on a different calculus. Whether it’s a career shift that feels risky, a call to forgive when it feels undeserved, or a season of waiting that seems to defy timing, God frequently asks us to step out before we see the bridge.
The Bible reminds us that our perspective is inherently limited:
Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV [8] “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. [9] “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The Purpose of the Stretch
Why does God allow us to feel "stretched"? Because comfort is often the enemy of growth. When we are comfortable, we rely on our own strength and intelligence. When we are stretched beyond our logic, we are forced to rely on His.
When you feel like you're being stretched to the breaking point, remember these anchors:
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; [6] in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Hebrews 11:1 NIV Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Trusting God when things don't make sense is where true intimacy is built. It’s the moment we stop worshipping our plan and start worshipping the Planner.
Leaning Into the Unknown
Next time you find yourself in a situation that doesn't add up logically, stop trying to do the math. Maybe God isn't looking for a calculator; He’s looking for a heart willing to say, "I don't get it, but I trust You."
If you feel stretched today—if you are facing a situation that doesn't "add up"—take heart. You are in the perfect position for a miracle. God is not confused by your circumstances, and He is not limited by what you can see.
Challenge yourself to move beyond what feels logical and lean into the character of the One who promised to never leave you. The stretch is simply the preparation for the breakthrough.
