The Bible reassures us that God is always ready to help.
Psalms 50:15 NLT Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”
Often, this prayer of deliverance is simply "Help!"
You don't need to begin with "Our gracious heavenly Father…" When you need quick deliverance from a temptation, it can be a short, quick, straight to the point “Help”
Think about it: "Help! Keep my eyes straight. Oh, God! You've got to help me! I really need your help today. These are the raw, honest cries God hears and responds to. For me, it’s about that situation I’m dreading. I just need to say, "Help! Give me the guidance and strength to get through this. I don't want to deal with it, but I know I need your help."
The pages of the Bible are filled with examples of people who cried out for deliverance and received it. David, Daniel, Peter, and Paul all experienced God's assistance when they asked. God provides help for anyone who asks because He has promised it. You don't need a long conversation; you can simply say, "Help! Mayday! God, I’m facing something now that willpower won’t get me through."
Why can we expect God to help us when we pray this prayer of deliverance? Because God is sympathetic to our situation. He knows everything going on in your life. He knows how irritated you get around certain people, and in certain situations. He knows the things that tempt you.
Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT [14] So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. [15] This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. [16] So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Notice that it says "Jesus understands." He is sympathetic because he faced the same temptations we do. Yes, that means Jesus was tempted to get angry, tempted by self-pity, and tempted in all the ways we are. The difference is that he never sinned. He had the freedom to choose, just like us, but unlike us, he never gave in. This is why he can help us overcome temptation. We are encouraged to "Come boldly to... God" and say, "I need your help!"
God isn't impatient or annoyed with you when you're tempted. He won't scold you. Remember, it's not a sin to be tempted. Instead, He says, "I'm here to help." Will you cry out to Him for that help today? Especially for those situations we really don't want to face, God is ready to guide and deliver.
