Have you ever wondered why?
It isn't because God is limited by our lack of status or skill. Rather, He works this way so that the grace, power, and glory remain right where they belong—with Him.
A Pattern of the Unlikely
When God built a nation, based on His promise, He called an elderly husband named Abraham. When He delivered His people from bondage, He called Moses—a man hesitant about his own speech. When He chose a king for Israel, He bypassed the taller, older brothers and picked David, a young shepherd tending sheep in the field. And when Jesus built His earthly ministry, He didn't assemble religious elites or rulers; He called fishermen, tax collectors, and everyday laborers.
1 Corinthians 1:27-29 NIV But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.
When an extraordinary outcome comes through an ordinary vessel, the source is clear. Observers know the result wasn't earned by human brilliance or charisma—it was accomplished by God alone.
Why God Works Through Our Weakness
Feeling unqualified, average, or limited does not disqualify you from God's work. In fact, human inadequacy is often the very canvas God uses to reveal His strength.
It Removes Confusion: When highly skilled leaders succeed, praise goes to their talent. When an everyday person steps out in faith and produces lasting fruit, people look past the person and acknowledge God.
It Guards Our Humility: Recognizing our role as humble vessels keeps pride in check. It reminds us that results belong to God, keeping our hearts grounded in gratitude.
It Inspires the Whole Community: Seeing God work through average people invites everyone into faithful service. It demonstrates that God's call isn't reserved for a elite few, but is open to all who serve Him faithfully.
Step Into Availability, Not Perfection
God does not require extraordinary ability; He seeks ordinary availability.
If you have ever felt too average or flawed to make a meaningful difference, take heart. You are precisely the kind of person God delights to work through. You don't need a massive platform, a high title, or flawless talents—you simply need an open heart that says, "Here I am, Lord, use me."
Isaiah 6:8 NIV Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
When you step out in quiet obedience, God takes your ordinary efforts, fills them with His extraordinary grace, and ensures the world sees His goodness at work.
