Think of it as a heart-to-heart with God. Find a quiet space, a moment where you can truly focus, and open yourself up. It's about saying, "God, I want to get real with you. Help me see the things in my life, the ones I know are wrong and maybe even the ones I'm blind to, that are creating a barrier between us."
Pray; Psalms 139:23-24 NLT Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. [24] Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
This is an invitation for God to shine a light on your inner self, to reveal those issues and burdens that hold us back from living fully in His grace.
Don't rush this process. Don't give God a five-minute window to reveal a lifetime of missteps. Allow yourself the space to truly reflect. Here's a crucial tip and step…take your time and write it down. The act of writing makes things concrete. It's as if the thoughts swirling around in your mind find clarity as you write them, or type them, or put them into the notes on your phone, tablet, or computer. The act of writing them down gives it the weight it deserves.
This process requires a deep level of honesty. How serious are we about experiencing God's blessings in our lives? Are we willing to be honest with God, with ourselves, and even with others? Or are we choosing the comfort of denial? I've learned that denial and true blessing don't coexist.
If you're truly ready, the liberty of a clear conscience is within reach. You are just one step away from a joy and purity you might not have known before. Freedom from those habits, hurts, and hang-ups that are clouding your life is closer than you think.
Don't put this off. Take some time, find that quiet space, and embark on this personal spiritual assessment. Trust me, it has the power to change your life.
