Many believers agree on one thing: we are living in the last days. Scripture affirms this reality clearly.
Acts 2:17 NIV ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV [1] But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. [2] People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, [3] without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, [4] treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— [5] having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
Jesus Himself described signs that would intensify as history approaches its climax (Matthew 24).But here’s the truth we often forget:
Knowing we are in the last days is not the same as knowing the last day.
Jesus made this unmistakably clear:
Matthew 24:36,42-44 NIV [36] “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
[42] “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. [43] But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. [44] So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
So why do so many Christians spend their energy trying to decode timelines, predict dates, or identify the exact moment Christ will return? They do it because it feels easier to speculate than to obey.
Our Calling Is Not Prediction—It’s Proclamation
Jesus never told His followers to obsess over the calendar. He told them to go.
Acts 1:7-8 NIV [7] He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. [8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The enemy would love nothing more than for believers to be so distracted by end‑times speculation that they forget the Great Commission entirely.
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV [18] Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The Real Urgency of the Last Days
If we truly believe time is short, our response should not be anxiety or obsession—it should be action.
2 Peter 3:8-10 NIV [8] But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. [9] The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. [10] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. (emphasis mine)
God’s “delay” is not hesitation—it’s mercy.
A Last‑Days Mindset That Honors God
Instead of trying to determine the day, Jesus calls us to:
1. Live Ready
Readiness is a lifestyle, not a countdown.
Matthew 24:42-44 NIV [42] “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. [43] But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. [44] So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (emphasis mine)
2. Witness Boldly
Every conversation, every act of kindness, every testimony matters.
Acts 4:31 NIV After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
2 Timothy 1:7-8 NIV [7] For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. [8] So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. (emphasis mine)
Ephesians 6:19-20 NIV [19] Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, [20] for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. (emphasis mine)
1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV [15] But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, [16] keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. (emphasis mine)
Luke 15:7 NIV I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
3. Shine Light in Darkness
The darker the world becomes, the brighter the Church should shine.
Matthew 5:14-16 NIV [14] “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. [16] In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
4. Stay Focused on the Mission
Nothing else transforms lives like Jesus.
Romans 1:16-17 NIV [16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. [17] For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (emphasis mine)
The Last Days Are Not a Warning to Fear—They Are a Call to Witness
We don’t need to know the exact day. We need to make this day count. Let’s stop obsessing over the timeline and start influencing souls for eternity. Let’s be the witnesses Jesus empowered us to be. Let’s fill heaven and plunder hell while there is still time
