The world might be waking up to the dangers of earthly "kings," but as Christians, we’ve always known that there is only One King who deserves our ultimate allegiance.
The King Above All Crowns
The "No Kings" rallies highlight a growing weariness with human authority—a recognition that no man should be above the law or hold absolute power over the lives of others. But for the believer, "No Kings" isn't just a political slogan; it is a theological reality.
We acknowledge that while we "render unto Caesar" what is Caesar’s, our hearts, our priorities, and our futures belong to Jesus Christ. He is the only one whose "immunity" is rooted in perfect holiness, and whose "decrees" are authored in love.
The Sovereign Reign of Christ
When we say Jesus is King, we aren't using a metaphor. We are stating a fact that overrules every earthly headline.
- The Ultimate Title: Revelation 19:16 NIV On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.
- The Heavenly Decree: Philippians 2:9-11 NIV Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- A Kingdom Not of This World: When stood before an earthly ruler, Jesus made His position clearJ[36] Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
- The Prince of Peace: Especially poignant following the Palm Sunday procession we celebrated this weekend, we remember:Zechariah 9:9 NIV Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Aligning Our Priorities
As we saw millions march this weekend, we are reminded that maintaining a strong foundation in faith is a continuous process. It requires us to regularly reflect on where we place our trust. Are we looking to political movements to save us, or are we aligning our priorities with God’s will?
The "No Kings" movement reminds us that human leaders will always be fallible. They will stumble, they will overreach, and they will eventually pass into history. But the King we serve is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 NIV Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Our call isn't to retreat from the world, but to engage with it while keeping our eyes fixed on the throne that cannot be shaken.
John 17:15-19 NIV My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
In a world shouting "No Kings," let our lives testify to the One King who already reigns.
