Today, May 7th, 2026, we observe the National Day of Prayer. This particular day carries a unique weight, falling within the landmark year in which we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. As we approach this historic milestone, it is a time for deep reflection and spiritual alignment. Before we celebrate our history we must first humble ourselves in petition.
This is my prayer for this nation.
Lord, we come before You acknowledging the times our nation has strayed from the path of righteousness and the ideals of liberty for all. We ask for Your forgiveness for the systemic failures, the broken promises, and the moments where we chose power over the dignity of Your children. May Your mercy heal the wounds of our history as we move through this anniversary year.
Give us the clarity to see the sins of our current day—the apathy, the greed, and the injustices we have allowed to become commonplace. We pray for the correction of our current course. Grant us the courage to change what is broken and the humility to admit when we have lost our way, aligning our daily actions with Your truth.
Grant us the wisdom to foresee the traps of the generations to come. Guard our hearts against pride and the temptation to seek prosperity at the expense of our soul. May we be a people who choose integrity over convenience, ensuring that the mistakes of the past serve as a guide for a more faithful future.
We pray that this nation would not be defined by the strength of our military and our arms, but by the strength of our spirit and the depth of our justice. Let our influence in the world be marked by peace and the power of our example, rather than the might of our weapons.
The fractures in our society are deep. We pray for the healing of our divisions. Soften the hearts of those who see only enemies in their neighbors. Replace our walls of suspicion with bridges of understanding, that we might truly become "...one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We lift up those who are often invisible—the poor, the marginalized, and the weary. Grant us a collective heart of compassion. May our greatness be measured by how we treat the least among us, ensuring that every citizen is valued and protected.
We pray for our leaders at every level of government. Grant them discernment, humility, and a servant’s heart. May they prioritize the welfare of the people over partisan gain and seek wisdom that transcends the noise of the moment.
Finally, we pray that this nation would turn its full attention toward Your desires for this land and Your people. Help us to stop seeking our own glory and start seeking Your guidance. May we align our national priorities with Your will, becoming a people who reflect Your love, Your justice, and Your grace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
