While the Super Bowl champions will bask in the fleeting glory of victory, Jesus offers a lasting triumph, a victory over sin and death, available to all who believe. He's not just a champion; He's the Savior.
Think about it, football is a game of strategy, skill, and teamwork, but life is a much bigger game, and we often find ourselves facing opponents far tougher than any linebacker. We struggle with temptation, doubt, and fear. We fumble, we fall, and sometimes we feel like we're losing.
1 Peter 5:8 NIV [8] Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
That's where Jesus comes in. He's the ultimate coach, offering guidance, strength, and unwavering support. He doesn't just watch from the sidelines; He enters the game with us, fighting our battles and offering us His grace.
John 3:16 NIV [16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
This is the game-winning play. It's the assurance that even when we mess up, even when we feel like we've blown it, God's love is there, offering us forgiveness and a fresh start.
This year the winner of the NFL’s NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles led by their quarterback Jalen Hurts, and the winner of the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by their quarterback Patrick Mahomes will battle to determine the winner of Super Bowl LIX and he champion of this season. However, this Super Bowl Sunday, as we cheer on our favorite teams, let's also remember the team we're really on – Team Jesus. He's the captain, the quarterback, and the ultimate champion. He's the one who offers us true victory, not just for a season, but for eternity.
Just like the athletes on the field, we are called to run our own race with perseverance and dedication. Jesus gives us the strength to endure, the courage to face our challenges, and the faith to keep going even when we want to give up. We can say like Paul in his second letter to Timothy.
2 Timothy 4:7 NIV I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
So, as you enjoy the Super Bowl festivities, remember the bigger picture. Remember the love, grace, and eternal victory offered through Jesus Christ. He's the MVP worth celebrating, not just on Super Bowl Sunday, but every day of the year.
Go Team Jesus!
