Joshua 24:15 NIV [15] But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (emphasis mine)
The challenge still rings true: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve...” This isn't a one-time signing of a contract; it's a daily declaration of allegiance.
The Invisible Foundation
A strong foundation in faith is not a quick fix; it’s a consequence of thousands of small, deliberate choices. When a storm hits—be it financial trouble, a health crisis, or relational strife—the strength of your foundation is tested. If we have consistently chosen worry over prayer, self-reliance over surrender, and distractions over reflection, the foundation will feel shaky.
Here’s the right choice.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV [5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; [6] in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
- When anxiety flares, choose to speak God's promises instead of listening to our fear.
- Choose to seek God's counsel and guidance rather than relying solely on our own finite wisdom.
- Choose to prioritize time with God, service to others, and ethical behavior, even when it costs us worldly advantage.
Faith in Action
Your choices are the actions that prove your faith is alive.
James 2:17 NIV In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
Do you choose to use your time to nurture your spirit (prayer, study) or simply to entertain the flesh?
- When provoked, do you choose the quick-fix satisfaction of anger, or the foundational choice of patience and forgiveness?
- When God nudges you toward an act of service, do you choose convenience or obedience?
Every choice is a vote for where your true priority lies. By deliberately and continuously choosing obedience, generosity, patience, and love, you are actively building a spiritual foundation that is strong, aligned with God’s will, and prepared to withstand any storm. Our choices today determine the direction of our walk tomorrow.
