But in the search for answers from God, we need more than just the facts—we need facts plus intimacy for the full picture.
The Danger of Information Without ConnectionWhen we only seek facts from God, we treat Him like a celestial search engine rather than a loving Father. We want to know where we are going, when it will happen, and how it will all work out.
While God absolutely cares about the details of our lives, information alone doesn't transform us. If God gave us all the facts without the intimacy, we would rely on the plan instead of relying on Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV [5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; [6] in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Notice that the promise of straight paths isn't tied to having all the data; it’s tied to trust and submission. Godly understanding isn't a math problem to solve; it is a relationship to cultivate.
What Happens When We Add Intimacy?
Intimacy changes our perspective. When we focus on knowing God’s heart rather than just demanding His answers, the "facts" of our situation begin to look different.
Consider the story of Moses. In Exodus 33, Moses essentially tells God that he doesn't want to move an inch unless God’s presence goes with him. Moses didn't just want a map to the Promised Land; he wanted the Guide.
Exodus 33:15-16 NIV [15] Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. [16] How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
God promises that we will find Him when we seek Him wholeheartedly.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV [11] For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. [12] Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. [13] You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
The answer to our prayers is rarely a piece of information; the answer is often a deeper revelation of who He is. Intimacy provides the context that makes the facts make sense. Without intimacy, we might get an answer but completely miss the point.
Aligning Our Priorities
Seeking facts plus intimacy requires regular self-reflection. We have to ask ourselves: Am I seeking a quick fix to my problem, or am I open to God's long-term guidance? When we align our priorities with His will, we realize that the waiting seasons aren't dead time. They are designed to build the very intimacy we need to handle the answers when they finally come.
If you are searching for answers today, don't just look for a signpost. Look for the Savior. Ask Him for the wisdom you need, but prioritize sitting at His feet. That is where the full picture finally comes into focus.
