As we near the end of this crazy year of 2024, and it was a crazy year, here’s a quote from the book Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maude Montgomery, “Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” There may be government and societal chaos, confusion, racial inequality, political division, inflation, wars everywhere. There was even, in a major surprise to many including me, that a former President, with a lot of political baggage, was reelected as President of the United States (who knew).
However, at one second after 12am January 1, 2025, there are no new problems yet. That alone is enough to make you shout. The year 2025 will start with anticipation and some along with a great deal of uncertainty.
To prepare us for what’s ahead in 2025 let’s get ready with twenty-five inspirational scriptures. This year I grouped the scriptures under eight themes for guidance and encouragement.
I pray that 2025 will be your best year yet.
Faith & Trust:
1. Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
2. Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
3. Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
4. Isaiah 41:10: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Hope & Encouragement:
5. Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
6. Psalm 23:4: "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
7. Lamentations 3:22-23: "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Growth & Transformation:
8. 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
9. Ephesians 4:22-24: "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
10. Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
Love & Relationships:
11. 1 John 4:7-12 "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."
12. Matthew 22:37-39: "Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
13. Proverbs 17:17: "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."
Wisdom & Guidance:
14. James 1:5: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
15. Proverbs 2:6: "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
Strength & Perseverance:
16. Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
17. Hebrews 12:1: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
Gratitude & Joy:
18. 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
19.Psalm 100:4: "Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name."
20. Philippians 4:4: "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"
Forgiveness & Grace:
21. Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
22. Colossians 3:13: "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
Service & Compassion:
23. Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"
24. Galatians 6:2: "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
Peace & Rest:
25. John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Let’s make 2025 the year where we see real life change, not only in ourselves but in the people around us because this will be the year that we decide to give it all up to the only one who is making all things new, Jesus Christ!
