I read this on the Women of Faith blog and I want to share it with you because I can’t think of any better way to say that we don’t really need a special day, or special meal, or a time with family and friends, to celebrate Thanksgiving, although all those things are great. Here’s what was written on the blog post.
You don’t need a turkey to celebrate Thanksgiving. All you need is a reason. And God has given you more reasons to be thankful than He’s created stars in the sky, so why wait?
Start with what you see—the clothes you’re wearing, the food in the fridge, the beauty of a summer day. Then think about the people you love and how they’ve touched your life. Next, consider what God has given you that can’t be held in your hands—things like hope, forgiveness, and your future home in heaven. Sit quietly as God brings to mind even more reasons to say thank you.
Stopping to say thanks will remind you of how big God is and how good your life is, no matter what kind of day you’re having.
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
This from me
Meditate on these things as you celebrate this Thanksgiving and as you are preparing for Christmas.
Psalm 26:7 (NKJV) That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, And tell of all Your wondrous works.
Psalm 28:7 (NLT) The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalm 95:2 (NKJV) Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with Psalms.
Psalm 107:1 (NKJV) Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
Psalm 116:17 (NKJV) I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the LORD.
Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
